Welcome, we are Paul and Julie Wardell and we hope you enjoy browsing our website.
We are situated on the Gloucester River, in a beautiful valley that runs from river to mountain tops.
A beef cattle property with country so steep that cattle-work is a difficult task but is efficiently achieved from the backs of our reliable Australian Stock Horses (ASH), enabling us to produce sure-footed, easy going mounts that earn us our living every day. These same horses, without missing a beat, are shown in high level ASH competitions most weekends, after the week’s work is done.
We pride ourselves on the excellent bloodlines that our horses carry, and enjoy breeding, raising, showing and breaking-in our youngsters and seeing them excel in whatever discipline their ultimate owners choose.
Our own show team has its share of success in the led, hack, working and campdraft arena which we feel reflects on the choices we have made in the selection of our breeding stock. Our aim is always to produce a line of horses that are sound, easy going, good minded, and of consistently uniform type.
We feel our long-term breeding programme is on track with the pleasing outcomes of matings by our past and present stallions to daughters and sisters of our foundation sire Montcalm Luke. Silverthorn Shotgun, one of the last sons of Montcalm Luke, has produced some quality heritage stock horse foals over the years. The use of Docs Freckles Oak and Acres Destiny bloodlines over some of our mares has also contributed to the quality our commercial line of horses.
Our broodmare base is such that we can say “…..this is the mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother of so many of our horses …..”. It is very satisfying to watch the progeny of these wonderful heritage bred mares whose bloodlines can be traced back to pre-1830, succeeding at the very most elite levels.
Additional to the breeding and showing facets of our business. Paul runs regular training and horsemanship clinics. For outside horses we also offer breaking-in, training and re-training and show and sale preparation. See our Training Page for more details.
Our byline “From the high country … to the main arena” – truly evokes who we are and what we do.
