Dalby ASH Sale, Sunday, December 3, 2006

A two year old black colt in the Dalby ASH Sale catalogue caught our eye as a prospective new sire for Silverthorn Stud.

St Ronan Abdul Smoke sired by Bryjen Fort Abdul out from the exquisite well performed mare, Comara Classic seemed to us to be a likely candidate. We decided to continue with the Abdul bloodline after using Waikon Park Coolabah (son of Abdul), who has produced some exceptional foals for us this year.

After talking to anyone who had had anything to do with "Smoke", and studying a very impressive pedigree (Click here to view pedigree), Paul decided to travel to Dalby in the hope that we might be able to purchase this colt.

There were 300 horses catalogued and were sold from 7am to 7pm - if you do your maths, this gives each horse a little over two minutes to be sold! (Click here for sale results).
Our fellow was almost at the end of the sale so as you may well imagine it was a long day - but happily our bid was the highest and we are now the delighted owners of a very typey colt.

We plan to do the futurities with Smoke before we start using him as a sire.

Bulahdelah Show - 17th November, 2006

Work Experience

Work experience student Jess Wainwright, from the Taree Christian Community School spent four days with us from November 20 to November 24. Fifteen-year-old Jess contacted us some time ago requesting that we consider taking her on for her work experience. We decided that since she was resourceful enough to seek us out she deserved to be tried. During the four days here she saw many facets of stud life, and gained much experience in the handling and training of youngstock. Hopefully we were able to give her a good insight into the career that she hopes to take on. The pictures tell it all -

Jess watches on while Paul brands youngster.

.... mounting a breaker, Suntan.

...with Paul getting the breaker going.

... handling foal, Witchery.

... and handling young three-year-old, Samuel

... and riding Madalyn, Jess is being evaluated for her riding skills.

Country Mile has gone to Gunnedah to his new owner Sara Newman.

Walkabout is in transit as this item is being recorded to Darwin to his new owner Lancia Puddle.

For those who missed out on these quality geldings, just keep watching our sale page as we have started breaking in two more geldings that should be ready to go in the new year..
