Cutting weekend at Fairview with trainer Gary Le Brocq - June 17 & 18

Gloucester Branch ASHS held a two-day cutting school here at Fairview that proved to be a huge success for all who participated. Organisers felt that the facilities and perfect weather was conducive to the fellowship and camaraderie and the big learning curve in both riders and spectators alike. Kempsey trainer Mr Gary Le Brocq was certainly impressive with his training methods, leaving riders delighted with the improvement in both their riding skills and the way their horses were responding. Gary said that cutting is just a different approach to reaching the same result as we are trying to get in our stock horses and stressed that we should get off the horse's head using less hands and more leg. He said to trust your horse to do what you are asking and let him tell you what he needs to be trained.

Gary rode every horse over the weekend demonstrating to riders just what their horse was capable of.
Gary is seen here riding Bob Murray's yearling filly Silverthorn Red Gum.

MVH&DC Dressage Day - June 18

Jugaby continues to display his versatility and great temperament. After a day at the cutting clinic, he competed the next day at the Manning Valley Hacking & Dressage Club dressage event conducted at Gloucester. Carolyn Murphy rode him in 3 tests for a 1st, 3rd, and 5th continuing his good run of never being unplaced at dressage.

Barsham Sunning

Barsham Sunning, the very smart two-year-old chestnut gelding that we had advertised on our sale page has just been sold and gone to his new owner, Kate Russell. Congratulations Kate, we look forward to seeing you in the show ring next season.

Breaking-in Time

Now that winter's here and our show season is over for the time being, we are able to put some time in to breaking-in our youngstock. Besides the youngsters on our sale page Paul has just started on Silverthorn Danni Girl (full sister to S Danny Boy and S My Girl) out of Six S Stud Charity and by Montcalm Luke, and is very pleased with her progress and feels that she will be the same nice ride as her siblings. Danni Girl is rising two years old. (April whip-cracking on Danni Girl below).

Another filly just started on is Silverthorn Ramona who is out of Montcalm Lea and by Knights Jugaby and rising two years old also. Ramona is a lovely soft filly, with huge movement like her sire. So far not shown but could well make her debut for us next season under saddle.

Newcastle Show, May 27, 2006 - Judge, Mr Bob Kilday

It's a long time since we last went to a Newcastle Show. What a lovely old showground it is. The weather was cool with light rain from time to time but not enough to deter the serious competitors. We had with us Silverthorn Country Music, Silverthorn My Girl and Knights Jugaby. Results were as follows: * Jugaby placed second in his led stallion class and went on to be placed reserve champion ASH stallion; won his stallion hack and came second in the stallion working. Mrs Tania Alderton rode him in the ASHLA class for a first. * My Girl placed second to Bob Murray's Silverthorn Springfield in the filly three and under class (Springfield ultimately was reserve champion mare/filly); Girl placed third in the open hack and fourth in mare working. Young April Spriggs rode Girl in the senior ASHLA for a second placing. * Country Music had a good day with April taking out first in a large novice hack class and a second in the novice working.

Presentation and Preparation of ASH Horses

Recently Julie had been invited to instruct on Presentation and Preparation of ASH Horses, both to the Eastern Branch ASH Youth Camp and Paterson Pony Club. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. For a copy of this information click here.

Stroud Annual Show, April 21, 2006 - Judge Sam Hudson

A super show for us with great performances by Jugaby and My Girl.

* Kylie Blanch rode Knights Jugaby in the maiden/novice campdraft scoring 21 in the camp and out round the first peg. Then with Paul riding into the ASH ring in time for the ridden classes to place 2nd in the stallion hack, 1st in the working stallion, and champion working. Jugaby was eligible for the supreme working ASH with his champion working award against the champion ASH hack and won the supreme ridden stock horse trophy.

* Silverthorn My Girl won high point Australian Stock Horse rug after having won her filly class, champion mare/filly and then supreme led ASH trophy. Saddled up with Paul in the saddle Girl placed second in a huge novice hack class, firsts in both working novice and working mare. April Spriggs and Girl then placed second in hack ridden by a junior under 18yrs. In the pony club events April and Girl placed 1st and champion in galloway classes and 2nd and reserve champion in the associate rider classes. Another top show for My Girl.

Pictured below Melissa Payne and Silverthorn Royal Astra had a good day with a placing in the ASH gelding class and in the buckskin ring a second and reserve champion.

Sydney Royal Show - April, 2006

We were in the ribbons at Sydney Royal Show with the following results:

* Knights Jugaby was placed in both stallion hack and stallion working.

* Silverthorn My Girl received firsts in both her led class and with April Spriggs in the junior rider station horse under 18 years; she also placed in mare hack under 15hh (fourth in an open field of 24 entrants), hack 4 years and under and working 4 years and under. A truly wonderful effort for a three-year-old filly.

* A blue ribbon in the buckskin ring for Melissa Payne and her gelding Silverthorn Royal Astra.
