NSW ASHS Breeders Championships, Scone

11th & 12th October, 2014

Paul Davidson sponsor of the Champion two-year-old Hack presenting trophy rug to Brittany on Tarraway Jackson

This is a very very big Australian Stock Horse Show held at White Park, Scone. Facilities, amenities and stabling are excellent. The Management Committee do a great job planning and running this huge event – a credit to all concerned. The Champagne Stakes certainly are incentive with huge monetary incentives, as are the youth rings and futurities.

The weather was fine but hot, and the working areas hard due to the continued dry weather.

We had with us Silverthorn Guns and Roses, Tarraway Jackson, Knights Jugaby and Montcalm Jocelyn.

We haven’t had Jocelyn in for very long and are still trying to build her up condition-wise, but thought we’d enter her for the experience. She didn’t place in anything but we were delighted with her good manners and paces. One to watch – she’s such a pretty filly and one can easily see her potential.

Jackson certainly didn’t disappoint with a second in his led two-year-old colt class and a first in the ridden two-year-old male which saw him ultimately Champion Ridden Two-Year-Old. We think there are big things to come for this colt – guess time will tell. Presently he is doing everything asked of him and his future looks promising. We would have entered him for the two-year-old futurity but as his breeder was judging, we had to forego this event.

On Guns and Roses Brittany won in a huge ASHLA class – a very nice event to win. They then won the hack section of the Champagne Stakes. They placed 2nd in the dressage, 5th in the led, 2nd in the curb bit hack, and 4th in the working four-year-old mare. Very pleased with these excellent placings.

Jugaby with Ashley on board placed 3rd in the hack section of the Champagne Stakes, 3rd in the open working gelding and 5th in the led gelding. These were huge classes, and even to be in the ribbons was a great result.

There were a lot of other Silverthorn horses there over the weekend claiming high placings. Silverthorn Wills with Jade Fangmeier, Silverthorn Sheoak with Holly Clayden, Silverthorn Seeker with Skye Maytom, Laura Strelitz with her mare Silverthorn Elliette and gelding Silverthorn Gunsmoke; and from down south Joe Lawrence with his three-year-old gelding Silverthorn Oaks Adair. We are so very proud of these young people who are achieving such great results with horses that we have bred, broken-in and trained.

Don’t know all the results but do know that Laura Strelitz did well on both her horses with Champion Juvenile Hack, 1st in ASHLA, 1st in novice dressage and 2nd in preliminary on Silverthorn Elliette 4th in the preliminary dressage, 2nd in the 4 year old hack, and 5th in the 4 year old working – a very good weekend for Laura.
