Eastern Branch ASHS Show

4th and 5th of October, 2014

Brittany and Guns and Roses, Supreme Ridden

This year Eastern Branch’s Show was held at Gresford Showground – a change from their usual venue at Singleton Showground. The facilities were adequate enough accommodating a large number of competitors. The show went over two days with the led, hack, working and challenges on the Saturday; and on the Sunday time trials, station horse challenge and campdrafts were held. The days were hot and dry with ground conditions very hard.

Judges were David and Emma Nash.

Our mare Silverthorn Guns and Roses led and ridden by Brittany Hetherington, placed second in her led class, first in hack mare over 15hh, first in ladies’ hack, and second in working mare over 15hh. Guns and Roses was sashed and awarded the Louise Delforce Trophy for Champion Hack sponsored by JP Equine Dental, and later under both judges, Supreme Ridden Exhibit sponsored by Celadon Benbrook Stock Horses and Active Embroidery. Our thanks to sponsors for their generous support.

Ashley led our filly Silverthorn Lilac Time (Silverthorn Shotgun x Rosebrook Mona) in the yearling filly class placing a creditable third.

Ashley also led and rode the three-year-old filly Montcalm Jocelyn (St Ronan Abdul Smoke x Montcalm Jillaroo) for a third in her led class, first in the maiden hack, second in a large three-year-old snaffle bit class, and third in hack three years and under. A good day for this filly just starting her show career.

With Tiffany and Mick Allen we won the sires progeny group of three by Silverthorn Shotgun, with yearling Benbrook Gunfire, gelding Benbrook Marksman, and mare Silverthorn Guns and Roses – they certainly made a lovely matched group. At the end of the day Silverthorn Shotgun was announced winner of the Most Successful Sire Trophy – his own sire Montcalm Luke had won this award twice.

Tiffany and Mick’s geldings had a great show with Celadon Addiction (St Ronan Abdul Smoke x Celadon Evangeline), Benbrook Marksman (Silverthorn Shotgun x Pink Silk), and yearling Benbrook Gunfire (Silverthorn Shotgun x Pink Silk) all winning their led classes. Addiction was later sashed Champion Gelding and Marksman Reserve Champion Gelding. Mick then rode Addiction to win the three year old ridden event.

We were well represented by Silverthorn horses, and pleased that their owners were also enjoying success with them. We did hear that young Laura Strelitz had a wonderful show on Silverthorn Elliette (Montcalm Luke x Six S Stud Charity) placing second in open hack, third in open working mare, and first in the Juvenile Draft. They won the Juvenile Challenge placing second in the hack section, and second in the working section. Laura placed third in the junior judging, first in her rider class, and Champion Rider. Third placings in hack, working and dressage, with a second in the Station Horse – great show Laura!

On the Sunday Paul, Brittany and Ashley had a much more relaxed day campdrafting with geldings Knights Jugaby and Silverthorn Easy Acres. Although not in the placings, they enjoyed the day and were pleased with the way the horses worked.
