Montane is second cross registered gelding out of a beautiful palomino mare, Silverthorn Chanteuse, that we bred from Elle Astra – one of our best producing mares; and by Montcalm Luke.
No matter what stallion we put Elle Astra to, she consistently produced champion stock. In the case of Silverthorn Chanteuse, Elle Astra was bred to our Section B Welsh Pony, Nattai Nimbus and the result was no exception with Chanteuse. She she gave us much pleasure in the show ring – with her multi registrations (Australian Stock Horse Society, Australian Palomino Horse Association, Australian Pony Stud Book Society, Welsh Pony and Cob Society and Australian Saddle Pony Association). With these registrations it made for very interesting show days, and in many instances coming home with champion sashes out of each respective breed ring. Chanteuse was a Sydney Royal winner, as well as taking out championships at the Palomino Nationals and the Australian National Horse Show.
Chanteuse’s sire, Nattai Nimbus, was bred by the late Lady Diana Creswick, and was shown by us for many years with great success. Nimbus has been a wonderful show pony for us with many championships and supreme championships to his credit. He has produced some wonderful ponies for ourselves and many other prominent pony breeders as well as some first cross ASH progeny.
Montane is now owned by Annie Sherlock and we were delighted when we heard the news that Annie and Montane were part of the Pony Club Junior Team of Four that won the Jenko Perpetual Cup for Pony Club Teams, Riders Under 13 at the 2007 Sydney Royal Show.
We are looking forward watching their progress this coming season.
Pictured here is Annie Sherlock from the Central Coast, on her gelding Silverthorn Montane at a recent 2008 jamboree where Annie won champion 12-year-old. Annie and Monte are at present excelling in jumping and dressage and are now training for their first cross country event.
